VH1 approached Pun and his team to design a bold and playful show package for their yearly countdown series, aiming to capture the attention of Gen Z viewers. The existing visuals felt dated and lacked the vibrant energy needed to connect with a younger, digitally native audience.
Goal:
Develop a complete show package with a fresh, youthful aesthetic that resonated with Gen Z culture. The creative direction needed to reflect the internet’s fast-paced, expressive personality while staying true to VH1’s entertainment roots.
Result:
Pun and his team delivered a standout show package that embraced a kitschy tech vibe, blending nostalgic early-internet design with modern motion graphics. The creative centerpiece of the concept was the use of emoticons, placed front and center to symbolize humor, self-expression, and digital culture. The result was a vibrant, tongue-in-cheek visual system that perfectly captured VH1’s fun, irreverent tone and instantly clicked with younger audiences.
